Any drug form of abuse results to side effects either of short or long term basis and at times even after withdrawal of the drug use. Systemic steroids also fall in the same category. With the many roles that these steroids are playing in the supporting of several systems functioning, the steroids are receiving great popularity among many people who have less knowledge or are completely blind on the same subject, resulting to their abuse. There are various doses of systemic steroids that are prescribed by physicians or doctors and these should be followed to the later. Due to the variations that exist in Systemic steroids strength the doses vary from one person to the other and also from a condition to the other. The side effects therefore are relatively proportional to doses taken and the intensity followed. Some of these doses are referred to either being low dose, medium dose, or high dose depending on the mode of intake. The low dose is presumably taken to be less than10mg per day intake of the prednisone, for the medium dose it is a constant intake of prednisone in a quantity of 10-20 mg per day and finally the high dose which is described as a consumption of more than 20mg per day of the prednisone. These quantities are best described by the medics and are usually simplified by the tablets or injections offered for the same. The excessive corticosteroid intake causes a condition described as Cushings syndrome. It also causes skin problems and makes the skin prone to several adverse effects, some of them being, bacterial infections such as cellulites and adverse fungal infections for example the Candida and the Tinea. All these conditions are not easily to identify but through proper medics inspections they can be identified and treated. Skin thinning is another condition that results to easy bruising and tearing of the skin. After any form of injury the effects results to slow healing of the injured part and also development of stretch marks on the skin after healing which are not easy to remove. There are also effects which are not easy to notice since they develop minimally and do not have a great impact on the body. Acne is also a severe condition emanating from systemic steroids abuse. In the process the body develops clustering of small face spots, the upper back and chest. However it is good to understand that systemic steroids which are prescribed a month or even less do not have serious side effects. Nevertheless they have some problems that happen to go along with them. Sleep disturbance, weight gain, increased appetite, psychological effects and also decreased energy. Among other rare conditions developing from the same are mania, heart failure, psychosis, peptic ulceration, aseptic necrosis and diabetes. However it is fine to use corticosteroids for few days or even weeks and this is described as safe, this is in the process of treating acute dermatitis. Whatever the case always assess the severity underlying any steroid disorder, and weigh them against the gains not forgetting of the therapy, and also the risks that could emanate from the same, before any decision to use them.br
